Plant Breeding, Genetics & Genomics
Overview

Plant breeding, genetics, and genomics has a critical role to play in 21st century agriculture, energy, and environmental stewardship. It has already brought us a long way in increasing crop productivity and in cultivating crops resistant to pests, pathogens, and drought. Centuries of plant breeding and selection for preferred traits has resulted in tremendous and positive impacts on food security and an improved quality of life. More recently, scientific advances in genomics and genetics are enabling rapid and targeted advances in plant improvement. But there is still much work to do - and many goals to achieve. Constantly evolving plant pests and pathogens, global climate change, and changing social needs make plant genomics, genetics, and breeding ever more critical.
