U.S.-Georgia Business Summit

On October 27, 2008, U.S. Commerce Deputy Secretary John Sullivan will host a Business Summit to highlight trade and investment opportunities in Georgia and share information about how to participate in Georgia’s reconstruction. The Summit will be held in conjunction with a U.S. Department of Commerce - certified trade mission organized by the America Georgia Business Council and the American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia. Support from the U.S. business community will enable Georgia to quickly regain its position as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

Georgia’s a transitional economy has benefitted from a series of very proactive government reforms. In 2007, Georgia’s Gross Domestic Product grew over 12 percent.

The U.S.-Georgia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA), signed in 2007, provides a forum to address trade issues and helps build trade and investment relations between the two nations.

The World Bank has ranked Georgia 15th out of 181 countries for ease of doing business.

International support is boosting investor confidence in Georgia and in the region in general.

Participants in the Summit can expect:

The latest information on the Georgian market and Georgian business opportunities.

Opportunities to meet senior-level Georgian government and industry decision-makers.

Guidance from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, the Export-Import Bank of the United States and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency on how to use U.S. government programs to do business with Georgia.

Up-to-date information from Millennium Challenge Corporation and other U.S. government agencies involved in Georgia’s reconstruction.

Who Should Participate

The Business Summit is designed for U.S. applicants interested in exploring trade and investment opportunities in Georgia, as well as learning about how to participate in Georgia’s reconstruction. Applicants may include representatives of U.S. businesses, associations, universities and other organizations with business interests in Georgia. Georgian companies are also encouraged to attend.

Additional Opportunity

Participants in the Certified Trade Mission sponsored by the America Georgia Business Council and the American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia will have additional face time with key government and business leaders, as well as one-on-one meetings with potential partners.
