The Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Centers (MIRECC)

The MIRECCs conduct research and produce clinical educational programs and products but generally provide direct clinical treatment to veterans only in the context of research protocols. Veterans should seek treatment at their local VA medical centers. Use the Facility Locator button to find the nearest VA clinic.

 
 

National Center for Postraumatic Stress Disorder 

This site is an educational resource on PTSD and traumatic stress, for veterans and also for mental health care providers, researchers and the general public. Links are provided for further infomation on PTSD and treatment resourses that are available.

       
 

Homeless and Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Services

In 2005 the Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation and Treatment Programs (DRRTP) became fully integrated with other MH residential rehabilitation and treatment programs in Mental Health Service, Office of Homeless and Residential Rehabilitation.  These residential care programs include:

  • Domiciliary (DRRTP)
  • Homeless Grant and Per Diem Program (G&PD)
  • Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation and Treatment Program (PRRTP)
  • Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (SARRTP)
  • PTSD Residential Rehabilitation and Treatment Program (PRRP)
  • Compensated Work Therapy/Transitional Residence Programs (CWT/TRs)

Women Veterans

The mission of the Center for Women Veterans is to ensure that: * Women veterans have access to VA benefits and services on par with male veterans. * VA programs are responsive to gender-specific needs of women veterans. * Outreach is performed to improve women veterans' awareness of services, benefits, and eligibility criteria. * Women veterans are treated with dignity and respect.

 

 

Readjustment Counseling Services

Vet Centers provide readjustment counseling and outreach services to all veterans who served in any combat zone. Services are also available for their family members for military related issues.

Veteran Recovery
This site provides a point of connection for veterans and others who are interested in learning about psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery resources, including military veterans who aren't familiar with the VA and other veteran centered organizations.

Seamless Transition VA Benefits

This web site is for returning Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve service members of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. They provide benefits information and assistance to eligible veterans who honorably fought and served in our Nation's armed forces.

Task Force on Returning 'Global War on Terror' Heroes
On March 6, 2007, the President directed VA Secretary Nicholson to establish an Interagency Task Force on Returning Global War on Terror Heroes. The Task Force will consist of Secretaries, or their designees, from the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Defense, Labor, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, and Education. The Director, Office of Management and Budget, and the Administrator, Small Business Administration, will also serve on the Task Force.

Environmental Agent Exposure
The Environmental Agents Service (EAS) administers health care programs related to environmental issues, including Operations Iraqi Freedom/Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF), Gulf War, Agent Orange, depleted uranium, ionizing radiation, and Project 112 (Including Project SHAD). EAS also oversees the War-Related Illness And Injury Study Centers (WRIISCs). Organizationally, EAS falls under the the Occupational and Environmental Health Strategic Health Care Group of the Office of Public Health and Environmental Hazards.

 

 

 

Informatics (email)

This section is responsible for the development and maintenance of mental health clinical software.  Our primary product is the mental health package in VistA and the Mental Health Assistant.  The tool is used to complete structured assessments and interviews used in treatment planning and delivery.

This section maintains several mental health databases which are used in program evaluation monitoring, including the Addiction Severity Index (ASI), PTSD and National Mental Health Database System (NMHDS).
