The East Fork Fire (center) started in the Apalachicola National Forest in western Florida on April 4, 2004, and by April 11 had grown to 14,600 acres. Ironically, burn-out activities (controlled burning to remove vegetation in the fire’s path) were hampered by high humidity in the region, but the overall cloudiness and increased humidity also decreased fire activity. The fire is expected to be contained by April 16.
