Health Protection Research Initiative: Centers of Excellence in Health Promotion Economics Center Core Grant (P30)

In FY 2004, CDC awarded two Centers of Excellence on Health Promotion Economics for a combined total of $2.0 million. The purpose of the solicitation was to promote research that would explore economic solutions to developing, evaluating, and implementing health promotion guidelines, recommendations, programs, and policies; to evaluate their cost-effectiveness, consequently improving upon all aspects of health promotion-related efforts.  This initiative was in response to the need to better understand the impact of economic factors on health promotion programs, policies, and practices. 
Successful Centers of Excellence often require a trans-disciplinary and trans-sector approach so settings that facilitated a broad array of expertise, access to and established relationships with a variety of entities and demonstrated institutional capacity in research and teaching were encouraged.
