Welcome to English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at Brookhaven
National Laboratory. What is ESOL? ESOL is a program with FREE English
classes that help our BNL visitors, guests, employees and spouses with
their English skills. The classes are held in the Recreation Building
(#317). We
have field trips and learn about American and international cultures
together. The ESOL office is in Building 400. ESOL falls under the
Quality of Life program in the Staff Services Division at BNL. For more
information or to join classes, please send an email to
esol@bnl.gov.
See updated class schedule.
We help to improve English by:
- offering free ESOL classes. If you’re interested in taking these
classes offered by trained tutors and teachers, fill out this ESOL
Student Registration Form.
- having fun and educational BNL community events that promote
language proficiency, foster community, and expose international
visitors to American customs and culture.
- publicizing information for your information about upcoming
events in the Community News. Attending events helps to improve
English. Click here for important links that can help improve
English.
Please do not hesitate to email
Jennifer Lynch or call her at extension 4894 with any questions
about the ESOL program or if you would like to volunteer in some way.
There are plenty of opportunities! If you have any suggestions, we are
always eager to hear them.
ESOL Mission Statement
The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program
compliments the Laboratory’s mission in its endeavor to create a
safe and welcoming workplace and community environment by supporting
those employees, visitors, users, students, and immediate family
members who would like to improve their English skills by providing
English language classes that suit their curricular needs along with
supplementary cross-cultural educational programs that enhance
communication among our diverse population.
