The U.S. Government Announces a $400,000 Donation for the Neurological Center of the ABC Hospital

Mexico City, Mexico, July 9, 2009 – During a visit to the ABC Hospital, Mr. John Feeley, Chargé D’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Mexico, announced a new USAID/American Schools and Hospital Abroad (ASHA) grant for $400,000 dollars. The USAID/ASHA grant will be used to purchase equipment for the physical rehabilitation center that will be located in the soon to be built Neurological Center at the ABC Santa Fe hospital.

During his visit, Mr. Feeley walked through the state-of-the-art facilities of the Cancer Center and witnessed the high level of attention and care its patients receive. He met with hospital administrators and staff, and saw equipment donated by the U.S. Government in 2008 in action . Mr Feeley commented that, “ABC’s legacy of philanthropy and outreach to traditionally underserved Mexicans is most admirable and reflects the finest ideals of community service that the ASHA seeks to promote.”

The Embassy’s ongoing support, along with the $3.5 million donation from USAID/ASHA in the 1980’s for renovation and modernization of the ABC Medical Center, demonstrate the commitment of the United States to promoting best practices in health care in the region. ASHA grants are awarded to competitively selected institutions all over the world to help provide high quality education and medical care in recipient countries.

Mr. Feeley was accompanied by: Klaus Boker, President of the Board of Trustees of the ABC Medical Center; Alejandro Alfonso, Director General; Deborah San Roman, Fundación ABC Manager; Nancy Stich, Public Relations and Marketing Manager; and Dr. Enrique Gómez, ABC Cancer Center Manager
