Cooperation on the National Infrastructure Program Means Opportunity for U.S. and Mexican Business

Statement by Ambassador Antonio O. Garza

Mexico City, February 14, 2008 - “From February 26 to 28, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is coordinating the U.S. and Mexico: Building Partnerships in Infrastructure Conference. We are hosting this conference in Mexico City to give an opportunity to American companies to find partners in Mexico as part of President Calderon’s visionary National Infrastructure Program, which strives to increase Mexico’s competitiveness and create jobs and economic opportunity here in Mexico.

“This unprecedented conference will bring U.S. and Mexican businesses together to bid in partnership for competitive contracts to build the infrastructure of Mexico’s future. USTDA is bringing U.S. financial institutions, construction and engineering firms, as well as suppliers of products and equipment to Mexico to meet with companies and government officials here. U.S. and Mexican participants will present and discuss over thirty projects in the transportation, energy and environmental infrastructure sectors that are being implemented under the National Infrastructure Program.

“The Embassy’s Commercial Service has worked closely with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency to develop this project-focused conference, presenting an excellent networking opportunity for U.S. and Mexican firms to learn more about the National Infrastructure Program and pursue future business together.

“I look forward to joining U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez and USTDA Acting Director Leocadia Zak at the conference, and encourage interested Mexican firms to join us at this unique business development event.”
