Ambassador Garza Celebrates Children's Art at Papalote Museum

Mexico City, November 4, 2004- “The wonderful artwork of these children celebrates their vibrant Mexican heritage and demonstrates the cultural ties that link our two nations,” said U.S. Ambassador Tony Garza. “Art is an important part of my life and I’m pleased to participate in this wonderful international celebration of youth and arts.”

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza along with Foreign Relations Under Secretary for North American Affairs Gerónimo Gutiérrez Fernández and Deputy Head of the Canadian Mission Neil Reeder attended the inauguration of an exhibit of children’s artwork entitled “This is My Mexico” at the Papalote Children’s Museum this afternoon.

Children of Mexican descent living in the United States and Canada are annually invited to submit drawings depicting their vision of Mexico to this contest that is sponsored by the Foreign Relations Secretariat, National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) and Verizon. Winners of the contest and an accompanying adult receive a paid trip to Mexico that includes a week of cultural events designed to enhance the children’s appreciation of their Mexican heritage.
