Ambassador Garza Receives Award from the Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Mexico City, October 6, 2004 – “Young people are a nation’s greatest asset and there is no more critical issue in today’s world than providing these young women and men with a good education that can help them become the best they can be,” said Ambassador Tony Garza before members of the Hispanic Scholar Fund (HSF) at this organization’s Hall of Fame Gala in Washington, D.C. “The work of the HSF over the past three decades to provide better opportunities for the Hispanic-American community is an example of leadership and vision,” Garza added.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) honored Ambassador Garza and other four prominent members of the Hispanic-American community for their academic, public policy and social advocacy achievements. They are the HSF Alumni Hall of Fame inductees of 2004, established to feature role models for future generations of Hispanic college students and to illustrate the power of higher education. Garza was recognized with the “Inspirador Award” (the Motivator), for personifying the hard work and sacrifice made by Latino families in pursuit of a college education.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the nation's leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education. HSF's vision is to strengthen America by advancing college education among Hispanic Americans. During its 29-year history, HSF has awarded more than 68,000 scholarships in excess of $144 million to Hispanic students. HSF was founded in 1975 with a vision to strengthen the country by advancing college education among Hispanic Americans, the largest minority segment of the U.S. population.
