Mexico City, July 12, 2005 — “By returning the wanted criminal Alfredo Rios Galeana to Mexico, the United States is sending a message to fugitives who foolishly believe they are clever enough to evade capture and responsibility for their crimes: You will find no quarter in our country, and we will spare no expense to find you and bring you to justice.” U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza.
The United States is pleased to announce that Alfredo Rios Galeana has been deported to Mexico. A former Mexican law enforcement official, Rios Galeana has been charged with serious criminal offences during the 1970s and 1980s. The capture of this most wanted felon demonstrates that the United States and Mexico are partners in a concerted campaign to take criminals to account for the crimes they commit.
