Argonne's Monica Regalbuto recognized as one of 25 Outstanding Hispanic Women in Business

ARGONNE, Ill. (April, 23, 2009) — HispanicBusiness.com has honored Argonne National Laboratory's Monica Regalbuto as one 25 outstanding Hispanic women in America. Regalbuto leads Argonne's Aqueous Processing in support of U. S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Advanced Fuel Cycle Initiative, which conducts research that supports the development of nuclear technologies related to closing of the fuel cycle, environmental remediation and non proliferation.

“I am honored to be recognized and included in the company of such amazing women,” said Regalbuto. “I hope my work can inspire others to continue advancing their careers and education.”

Monica is an affiliated researcher with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and is currently on an intergovernmental assignment with DOE's Office of Environmental Management, assisting the department in its remediation efforts.

Regalbuto is the author of multiple patents, journal articles and reports and she is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Chemical Society, the American Nuclear Society, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Society of Women Engineers. She is also a founding member of Argonne's Hispanic/Latino Club and participates in the club's outreach efforts to elementary and secondary schools.

"Monica is at the forefront in conducting and directing research essential to the nation's energy security," said Emilio Bunel director of Argonne's Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division. "She is a world-class engineer and a natural leader and role model.”

Regalbuto holds a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame. She also has an M.S. degree in chemical engineering from Notre Dame and a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Mexico.

HispanicBusiness has a strong tradition of honoring and recognizing Hispanic women in business, government, academia and entertainment. The magazine celebrates its 30th anniversary, and will honor and recognize the accomplishments of successful Hispanic women, at the 7th annual Woman of the Year Award Symposium and Gala on June 4 in Houston, Texas.
