PROTON THERAPY: I write to urge continuation of
Medicare reimbursement for Proton Beam Ratiation
Therapy (PBRT). [PHI Redacted] diagnosed with prostate
cancer in [PHI Redacted], and discussed case with
several top urologists in Southern Calif. All of
them wanted to immediately perform surgery. None
even suggested reading about PBRT. After [PHI Redacted] read
voluminous information about the various
treatments possible to treat prostate cancer [PHI Redacted]
chose PBRT at Loma Linda University Medical
Center. [PHI Redacted] chose it because it was non-invasive,
had minimal side effects (particularly when
compared to the other possible treatments), and
was all out-patient. [PHI Redacted] PSA has been under 0.7
since completion of PBRT in [PHI Redacted].
It would appear that all of the medical people
writing to oppose Medicare reimbursement for PBRT
have a monetary interest in opposing; they are
losing money when persons such as [PHI Redacted] chose
PBRT over expensive surgery/hospital/etc.etc.
