Overview of Chemicals Involved

Tests from routine water sampling helped to identify that the chemicals trichloroethylene (TCE) and tetrachloroethylene (PCE) contaminated some drinking water sources at Camp Lejeune. TCE and PCE are colorless, manufactured chemicals. TCE is a solvent used for cleaning metal parts. PCE is used for dry cleaning and metal degreasing.
