Chief Administrative Officer

Mr. Ferguson is the Chief Administrative Officer for the Architect of the Capitol, responsible for administrative support services to over 2,400 AOC employees and staff located throughout the U.S Capitol complex. His areas of responsibility include Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Procurement, Equal Employment Opportunity and Conciliation Programs, Employee Assistance Programs, Curatorial Programs, Office Services, Strategic Planning, Quality Management, and U.S. Senate Restaurants. Mr. Ferguson has been with the Architect of the Capitol since November 2005.

Mr. Ferguson was graduated from Autauga County High School, Prattville, AL, in 1970. He attended Auburn University on a football scholarship and earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1974, as well as a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond, OK, in 1985. He received his commission through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program and was called to active duty in July 1975, serving 26 years before retiring as a Colonel in July 2001. He had many educational opportunities in the Air Force and was a distinguished graduate of Squadron Officer School and finished in the top-third of his class at Air Command and Staff College. He also completed one year of non-degree graduate studies in the Air Force Education with Industry Program at Kodak’s corporate headquarters. After graduation from the Air War College in residence, he attended the Advanced Management Program of the Information Resources Management College at National Defense University, where he was once again a distinguished graduate. He holds professional certifications as an Information Resources Management (IRM) professional and as a Retirement Housing Professional (RHP).

Just prior to his retirement from active duty, then-Colonel Ferguson served as Chief, Training Division and Chief, Force Sustainment Division, Directorate of Personnel Force Development, Deputy Chief of Staff, Personnel, Headquarters United States Air Force. Before that he was the Senior Military Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Office of the Secretary of Defense. From June 1997 until June 1999, Colonel Ferguson commanded 3,200 men and women in the largest support group in the Air Force, supporting a community of 65,000 Americans in the Kaiserslautern Military Community around Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

Mr. Ferguson is married to the former Kathleen Irvine of Nashua, NH. Mrs. Ferguson is a member of the Senior Executive Service, currently serving as The Deputy Civil Engineer for the United States Air Force. They have two children.
