The Basic Data Fund is a cooperative program with the Washington State Department of Ecology and the US Geological Survey. It is defined within the Revised Code of Washington Title 43, Chapter 21A.067 to cost-share the funds for the collection of basic data "for an intelligent inventory of water resources in the state."

In this fiscal year this program funds data collection at about 30 sites throughout the state for a diversity of data needs, such as stage and streamflow, water quality, meteorological and snow data, and real-time telemetry at stations.
