Refugee Assistance Program

The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) provides assistance to eligible refugees, asylees, Cuban and Haitian entrants and parolees, Amerasians and victims of human trafficking.

Through state refugee agencies and, in some cases, private non-profit agencies, ORR provides a broad range of social services programs, with a focus on obtaining employment as quickly as possibly after a refugee arrives in the U.S. There is also a program for new refugee arrivals that would provide free health screening and limited cash and medical assistance for refugees who do not qualify for Medicaid of state welfare benefits. Additionally, many local refugee providers receive funding support directly from ORR to provide services for older refugees, youth and other groups with special needs.

For specific information on state refugee programs, please consult the respective state refugee coordinator. You will find the addresses at: http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/orr/partners/coordina1.htm. Many local service provider addresses can also be found at http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/orr/programs/mgpss.htm.
