US Public Service Academy

  • National Service Academy

Congressman Brady is a cosponsor of The United States Public Service Academy Act of 2009, which would establish The U.S. Public Service Academy, a four-year tuition-free college and will be a civilian counterpoint to West Point and the civilian academies. Students would spend four years gaining a liberal-arts education focused on public service before spending at least five years working as a civil servant at the local, state or federal level.

Education

I strongly believe that education is the foundation of our nation’s future.  Right now, too many of our children are falling through the cracks of our nation's education system, dropping out of high school, or going to school in facilities that are crumbling and have inadequate resources.  We have a responsibility to ourselves and to our children to make sure that future generations have the tools they need to succeed and to compete in the 21st century.

It is imperative that children receive a solid education as early as possible in their lives to improve their prospects for success. I am a strong believer in the importance of early childhood development programs, and have ardently supported programs such as Head Start, which provides comprehensive early childhood education and development services to low-income preschool children.

We must continue to support students' growth throughout their development.  In addition to ensuring that schools have access to highly qualified teachers, we must provide students with 21st Century classrooms that will help them learn about technology and gain the skills needed to compete in the global economy.

In order to promote a fully vibrant workforce, higher education cannot be shut off to those who cannot afford it.  We must continue to provide access to Pell grants, federal student loans, and college work study programs in order to keep the dream of going to college alive for all Americans.

It is my goal to ensure that all of America’s children have access to quality education and the tools they need to be successful in school and beyond.

To this end, I have co-sponsored many bills in the 111th Congress that improve our children’s chances for success. For example, I supported H.R. 106, the American Opportunity Tax Credit Act, which aims to make higher education more affordable for all Americans by providing a tax credit for higher education expenses. Also, I believe that H.R. 702, the PRE-K Act, which provides additional federal funding for pre-kindergarten programs, will give our children the strong start that they need to be successful in all levels of school. I urge the swift passage of this and all other legislation that aims to improve the quality of education that we provide to our nation’s future leaders.
