Architecture for the National Accounts
On April 16 and 17, 2004, the Conference on Research in Income and Wealth (CRIW), a program of the non-profit research organization National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), hosted the Conference on A New Architecture for the U.S. National Accounts.
This conference brought together top economists from around the globe to review and discuss the current U.S. national accounts structure and to initiate progress toward more comprehensive and fully integrated accounts.
In particular, the conference focused on (1) expanding and improving integration among the economic accounts produced by BEA, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), and the Federal Reserve Board (FRB); (2) extending the accounts into non-market sectors via satellite accounts; and (3) increasing the linkages between micro and macro data accounts.
Members from federal statistical agencies, including BEA, BLS, FRB, and the Census Bureau, were active participants in this discussion, co-authoring papers and offering feedback on the research that was presented.
