TANF Financial Data -- quarterly TANF data for States
Document last modified on: Monday, Jun 02 2008

States are required by statute (Social Security Act , Title IV-A, Section 411) to report on Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program expenditure data, including

  • data on expenditures for administrative costs and
  • data on transitional services to families that have ceased to receive cash assistance because they have found employment.

States are also required (Social Security Act , Title IV-A, Section 409) to share in the costs of the TANF program. A statutory maintenance of effort (MOE) requirement calls for the expenditure of State funds on the program to remain at certain historic levels.

The Department of Health and Human Services has developed a financial data reporting form (Form ACF-196), which States are required to submit no later than 45 days after the end of each quarter. The tables linked below

States are also required by statute to report programmatic data such as caseload numbers and caseload demographics. We will provide separate summaries of TANF programmatic data when the data becomes available.

The tables below focus exclusively on the quarterly data reported on the TANF financial report and are cumulative for the stated quarter of the fiscal year.
