SUBJ: VETERANS AWARENESS CADRE 1. THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY HAS ESTABLISHED A VETERANS AWARENESS CADRE, THE FIRST OF ITS KIND, TO EXPAND CORPORATE RECRUITMENT AND DIVERSITY EFFORTS. 2. THE VETERANS AWARENESS CADRE WILL ENABLE VETERANS GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS TO INTERACT DIRECTLY WITH FELLOW VETERANS PROVIDING CREDIBILITY AND UNIQUENESS TO DHS VETERANS OUTREACH EFFORTS. 3. THE VETERANS AWARENESS CADRE WILL ALSO ENCOURAGE MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN VARIOUS VETERANS SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS, MILITARY TRANSITION CENTERS AND MILITARY SUPPORT GROUPS WITH THE DEPARTMENT BY DISPATCHING DHS VETERAN REPRESENTATIVES TO INTERACT WITH VETERANS IN THEIR ENVIRONMENT. 4. THIS ALCOAST SOLICITS MILITARY VETERANS AT ALL GRADE LEVELS TO APPLY FOR THE VETERANS AWARENESS CADRE. 5. AS VETERAN SPONSORED PROGRAMS AND EVENTS OCCUR YOU WILL BE CALLED UPON TO SHARE YOUR VETERAN AND CIVILIAN TRANSITION EXPERIENCES THROUGH ORAL PRESENTATIONS DURING CAREER FAIRS, WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS. IN SOME INSTANCES YOUR OFFICE MAY INCUR SOME TRAVEL COST. 6. VETERANS THAT ARE INTERESTED IN VOLUNTARILY PARTICIPATING IN THE VETERANS AWARENESS CADRE MUST SUBMIT A COMPLETED APPLICATION PACKET THAT INCLUDES A ONE PAGE BIOGRAPHY RESUME, A RECOMMENDATION AND ENDORSEMENT FROM CURRENT SUPERVISOR, AND A COPY OF THEIR DD-214 BY COB JUNE 15, 2009 7.
