Study Texas

The Study Texas Coalition was created to enable schools in the State of Texas to work together to market the advantages of receiving an education in Texas.  Several years ago, a group of universities and colleges across Texas formed a loose alliance to attract international students, known as the “Lone Star Education Coalition”. This organization was established by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s U.S. Commercial Service to enable schools in Texas to leverage the synergies of the group at recruiting events abroad. Numerous schools from across the State were involved in multiple trade missions the coalition took to Mexico and India. The first trade mission in spring 2004 took ten schools to Monterrey and Mexico City. The following spring, the Coalition took 30 schools to Monterrey where they were greeted by the Governor of the State of Nuevo Leon at the opening ceremonies of the fair. The group was also hosted by the Secretary of Education for the State of Nuevo Leon at an evening reception. It is only by combining their resources that the schools were able to get such high profile greetings. About 2,300 prospective students visited the Texas pavilion at that fair. Most recently, the Coalition took several Texas schools to India as part of an outreach tour to students, schools and businesses. This was the fifth mission for Texas schools organized on behalf of the Coalition. It was on this trip that it was decided that a stand-alone coalition should be founded so that more opportunities could be made available to all Texas schools. In December 2008, the group held its first meeting to create Study Texas.
