In 2005, this assistance resulted in 317 export successes for small and medium businesses, generating nearly $498 million dollars in export sales for the Illinois economy.

Global market opportunities are increasing for Illinois exporters. Indeed, Illinois exports have experienced dramatic growth over the past several years. Led by top exports in the machinery, chemical, computer and electronic products, and transportation equipment industries, Illinois exports increased by almost 19 percent from 2004 to 2005 to $36 billion. Free trade agreements including the recently negotiated CAFTA-DR and the current negotiations with Singapore, Chile, Bahrain, and Australia, have and will continue to open doors for more opportunities for Illinois companies to expand through exporting.
