US Commercial Service Enables $1.5 Million Sale to the Olympic Games

The U.S. Commercial Service Italy recently supported a US firm's bid to supply roughly 5,000 radio terminals to the Turin Olympics. The US bidder faced stubborn competition and requested advocacy support from the Commercial Service to level the playing field. The advocacy helped and the organizers decided to rent the terminals from a distributor of the US company, for a value of approximately $1.5 million, and to entrust technical field support for the terminals to the US firm.

Successes in 3 Continents for US Exhibitor at Italian Optical Trade Show

The U.S. Commercial Service Italy Italy recruited a medium sized Wyoming manufacturer of eyewear retainers to exhibit in the US Pavilion at MIDO 2005, the leading trade show in the world catering to the optical sector. With the active support of the U.S. Commercial Service Italy, the US company managed to reap export successes in three different continents as a result of its participation. In fact the company signed distribution agreements for the countries of Uruguay, Spain and Dubai (UAE), in addition to making a conspicuous amount of direct sales at the trade show itself. The role played by the US Pavilion in MIDO is recognized as invaluable, as it usually is the only available venue for SMEs in this perennially sold-out exhibition.

CS Italy Protects a U.S. Company's Intellectual Property Rights at Milan Trade Show

A U.S. manufacturer of reflectors used for commercial lighting, was concerned about "copycat" exhibitors at a Milan International Trade Show. Walking the show in the company of the U.S. Commercial Service Italy personnel, the US company identified six exhibitors displaying products infringing on the company's world-wide patents. Based on the organizer's exhibitor rules against the display of counterfeit products, the U.S. Commercial Service Italy requested the organizer's legal representative to serve extra-judicial injunctions on the offending exhibitors. As a result, the offending exhibitors were forced to immediately remove the counterfeit products, including catalogs and posters from their booths. This represented an important step forward in the protection of Intellectual Property Rights of US firms during trade shows in Italy.

U.S. Exporter says: "Our experience in Italy was terrific!"

A U.S. manufacturer of seat cushions used in many different applications worked with the U.S. Commercial Service in Milan, which in December 2005 introduced officers from the company to Italian candidates for distribution of products in the agricultural, commercial truck, construction and motorcycle sectors. In January 2006 the Senior VP of Sales for the US company informed us as follows: "To summarize our experience in Italy in one word: terrific! We have reached agreement with a distributor to begin doing business immediately. We are getting closer to finalizing agreements with the candidates for the other markets that we were exploring (...) We are very pleased with the efforts of the U.S. Commercial Service".
