The eight science objectives outlined in the roadmap represent the most important directions for the exploration of our solar system in the coming decades. They will guide the activities of Solar System Exploration and Mars Exploration -- two of NASA's strategic themes -- in fulfillment of NASA's goals. They also provide the context through which we formulate our specific research objectives and define the science investigations and missions that address them.
