Welcome Aboard!
NOAA Ship McARTHUR

Visiting scientists aboard the McARTHUR make detailed observations of marine mammal and bird activity as well as conduct a wide range of operations including: Conductivity, Temperature, Depth (CTD) casts, water clarity observations, Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) transects, sound velocity profiling, weather balloon launches, acoustic surveys, scuba diving, and plankton tows using several types of nets.

In the 2001 field season the McARTHUR will travel to the Gulf of Mexico and again participate in the Sutainable Seas Expeditions (SSE), a joint project between National Geographic Society and NOAA, led by Dr. Sylvia Earle. This project will take McARTHUR to reefs in Belize, Cancun/Cozumel, Flower Gardens (off Galveston, TX) in support of manned submersible expeditions using Deepworker 2000.

Later in the year, McARTHUR will participate in two new marine mammal surveys in the Eastern Pacific called: CHase Encirclement Stress Studies CHESS and Oregon, California, Washington ORCA Whale project in support of protected species research efforts at NOAA's Southwest Fisheries Science Center in La Jolla, CA and Santa Cruz, CA.
