KENNEDY SPACE CENTER SPACE SHUTTLE STATUS REPORT MONDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1995 (12:27 PM EST) MISSION: STS-74 -- 2nd MIR DOCKING (Docking Module) VEHICLE: Atlantis/OV-104 LOCATION: Pad 39A TARGET LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Nov. 11 at 7:56 a.m. LAUNCH WINDOW: 7 minutes TARGET MIR DOCKING DATE/TIME: Nov. 14 at about 2:20 a.m. TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Nov. 19 at about 1:28 p.m. MISSION DURATION: 8 days, 5 hours CREW SIZE: 5 ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 196-245 statute miles/51.6 degrees IN WORK TODAY: * Aft engine compartment close-outs * Countdown preparations * Pressurize hypergolic propellant system WORK COMPLETED: * Close payload bay doors for flight KEY STS-74 OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only): * Complete aft engine compartment close-outs (Tuesday) * Complete ordnance installation (Tuesday) * Launch countdown begins (7 a.m. Wednesday) * Crew arrival (11 a.m. Wednesday) MISSION: STS-72 -- SFU-Retrieval & OAST-Flyer VEHICLE: Endeavour/OV-105 LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility Bay 3 TARGET LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Jan. 11 at 4:18 a.m. EST LAUNCH WINDOW: 60 minutes TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Jan. 20 at 2:54 a.m. MISSION DURATION: 8 days, 22 hours, 36 minutes CREW SIZE: 6 ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 184 statute miles/28.45 degrees NOTE: Payload installation on Friday was halted due to a problem discovered while lowering the OAST-Flyer and GAS (Get Away Special) bridge into Endeavour’s payload bay. It was determined that the GAS bridge keel trunion was too long as it made contact with the aft mid-point attachment. The payload was removed and inspections revealed only minor damage to the thermal insulation blankets, which have been repaired. X-rays of the vehicle’s structure unveiled no structural damage. The faulty keel trunion on the GAS bridge has been replaced and the payload will be installed today. KEY STS-72 OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only): * Payload interface verification tests (Thursday/Friday) * Mate external tank with solid rocket boosters in Vehicle Assembly Building (Thursday) * Install orbital maneuvering system pod (Nov. 13) * Final payload bay door closure (Nov. 21) * Roll to Vehicle Assembly Building (Nov. 29) MISSION: STS-75 -- TETHERED SATELLITE-1R & USMP-3 VEHICLE: Columbia/OV-102 LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 2 TARGET LAUNCH DATE: Feb. 29, 1996 (under review) TARGET KSC LANDING DATE: March 14, 1996 MISSION DURATION: 13 days, 16 hours CREW SIZE: 7 ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 184 statute miles/28.45 degrees NOTE: The orbiter Columbia was towed to the Orbiter Processing Facility bay 2 yesterday afternoon, arriving in the bay at about 3 p.m. Post-flight assessments revealed generally normal tile damage (about 90 tile hits due mainly to ice debris at launch time). The orbiter’s tires and brakes are reported to be in good condition. Thermal protection gap fillers around the orbiter’s reinforced carbon-carbon chin panel appeared loose. This may require that the chin panel be removed and inspected prior to Columbia’s next flight. Other post-mission assessments will continue today. KEY STS-75 OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only): * Open payload bay doors (Wednesday) * Remove USML payload (Friday) All times eastern
