 Secretary Shinseki Announces Expansion in Albany - Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki has announced a plan to expand health care in Albany, N.Y., by leasing 2.4 acres to a private-sector medical facility in exchange for construction of a 30,000 square-foot building for the Department of Veterans Affairs at its Samuel S.  Secretary Shinseki Announces $8.8 Million for Washington Cemetery - Ensuring that military Veterans living in eastern Washington have a final resting place that honors their service to the nation, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced the award of $8.8 million to establish the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake. (8/20/09)

 Secretary Shinseki Announces Expansion of Jefferson Barracks Cemetery - Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki today announced the Department of Veterans Affairs is awarding more than $898,000 to URS Group Inc., a St. Louis-based company, to design a gravesite expansion project at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. (8/19/09)

 Secretary Shinseki Announces $8.7 Million Contracts in Philadelphia - Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki today announced the Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded two contracts totaling $8.7 million to prepare the new Washington Crossing National Cemetery near Philadelphia for its first burials. (8/19/09)

 VA Reburies “Buffalo Soldiers” in Santa Fe National Cemetery - A ceremony memorializing 64 soldiers and their family members who protected southwestern New Mexico from Apache attacks in the mid-1800s was held July 28 by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Interior. The remains of the Fort Craig residents originally buried at the fort’s cemetery and disinterred by the Interior Department in 2007 were recently reburied with full military honors at VA’s Santa Fe National Cemetery. (8/18/09)

 Secretary Shinseki Announces Expansion of Counseling for Combat Veterans - Today, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced that combat Veterans will receive readjustment counseling and other assistance in 28 additional communities across the country where the Department of Veterans Affairs will establish Vet Centers in 2010. (8/14/09)

Secretary Shinseki Announces Over $153 Million for Biloxi - Today, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced six contracts have been awarded worth $153.7 million to build new health care facilities and expand existing services that provide care to Veterans in the Biloxi, Miss., area.  (8/12/09)

Evans Sworn in as VA Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Legislative Affairs - Joan M. Evans was sworn in Aug. 10 as Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Legislative Affairs for the Department of Veterans Affairs. (8/11/09)

Obama Administration and the State of California Fix Post 9/11 GI Bill Tuition Glitch - Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced today a joint solution has been reached between the State of California and the VA concerning how tuition and fees are determined. The new definition will allow for standardized application under the new Post 9/11 GI Bill and the accompanying Yellow Ribbon program. (8/4/09)

Supporting Our Troops: The Post 9/11 GI Bill - Today, President Obama celebrated the beginning of implementation of the Post 9/11 GI Bill. This bill, through its Yellow Ribbon Programs and partnerships with colleges and universities throughout the nation, will provide our service members with the most generous educational benefits package since the original GI Bill of 1944. (8/3/09)
