NOAA/ATDD is a cooperative climatological data site for Oak Ridge, TN. The Oak Ridge site located at ATDD began data collection in January 1953 and continues to the present.

Data Collected Before August 2001

If you wish to view information and data collected at this data site BEFORE August 2001, it is available via anonymous FTP. The data is available in PDF report form, and the data has been verified by National Climatic Data Center. The file names begin with the 4-digit year followed by the 2-digit month.

During the time period March 1999 through July 2001, the data was obtained from an automated NWS weather station located about 3 miles away from ATDD, also in Oak Ridge. The temperature data from this automated site is very comparable to the data that has been collected at the ATDD site. The file names for this data end in "ASOS". However, the precipitation data collected at ATDD can be significantly different from the data collected at the ASOS site. Therefore, if the precipitation data collected at the ATDD site is available for this time period, those files are included. The file names for this data end in "Precip".

Data Collected From August 2001 To Present

NOAA/ATDD currently records and distributes each month:

  • Daily maximum, minimum, and average temperature in °F and °C
  • Daily maximum, minimum, 0700 EST and 1300 EST relative humidity
  • Daily snow depth at 0700 EST and 1300 EST
  • Hourly and daily totals of precipitation (liquid and snow) in millimeters and inches
  • Daily average barometric pressure in millibars and inches

Distribution of the recorded meteorological data for this time period is available through this website. The following describes what is available via the links. The data is also available via anonymous FTP. The files beginning "coop" contain general climatology data, the files beginning "prin" contain precipitation in inches data, and the files beginning "prmm" contain precipitation in millimeters data. The next two characters in the file names are the month number, and the next two characters are the last two digits in the year. All data on the FTP site is usually updated by the 10th of the following month.

General Climatology in TXT file - This is an ASCII text file (times in EST) of the last full month's table containing averages of all of the data collected, including units.

Hourly Precipitation in TXT file (inches) - This is an ASCII text file of the last full month's table containing hourly precipitation rates by days of the month, and totals by days (times in EST).

Hourly Precipitation in TXT file (millimeters) - This is an ASCII text file of the last full month's table containing hourly precipitation rates by days of the month, and totals by days (times in EST).

All data is considered accurate, but unofficial. An official data report can only be obtained by contacting NCDC.
