The nozzles will be shipped to Thiokol in Utah by Wednesday for a more detailed inspection. On orbit, the Wake Shield Facility is scheduled to be deployed soon after 8 p.m. EST tonight. The first EVA is scheduled for Thursday evening. MISSION: STS-81 -- 5th MIR DOCKING & SPACEHAB DM (image) VEHICLE: Atlantis/OV-104 LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 3 TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Jan. 12, 1997 at about 4:17 a.m. (EST) LAUNCH WINDOW: 7-10 minutes TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Jan. 21, 1997 at about 8:40 a.m. MISSION DURATION: 9 days (+1) CREW: Baker, Jett, Grunsfeld, Ivins, Wisoff, Linenger (up) Blaha (down) ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 184 statute miles/51.6 degrees NOTE: The new replacement fuel cell No. 2 has been installed and interface connections and testing will be conducted today. Midbody, forward compartment and aft engine compartment close-outs will continue this weekend. The payload bay doors are scheduled to be closed as early as Monday night. External tank and solid rocket booster close-outs continue in work in the Vehicle Assembly Building. KEY STS-81 OPERATIONAL MILESTONES (dates are target only): Close payload bay doors for rollover (Monday or Tuesday) Roll to Vehicle Assembly Building (Dec. 5) Roll out to Pad 39B (Dec. 10) Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (Dec. 16-17) MISSION: STS-82 -- HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE SERVICING MISSION-2 VEHICLE: Discovery/OV-103 LOCATION: Orbiter Processing Facility bay 2 TARGET LAUNCH DATE/TIME: February 13, 1997 at 2:59 a.m. LAUNCH WINDOW: 61 minutes TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: February 23, 1997 at 1:35 a.m. MISSION DURATION: 9 days, 22 hours CREW: Bowersox, Horowitz, Lee, Hawley, Harbaugh, Smith, Tanner ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 360 statute miles/28.45 degrees NOTE: Electrical connections on the left hand orbital maneuvering system pod continue in work as does interface verification testing. Fuel cell No. 1 has been installed and functional testing will begin next week. The payload bay doors are scheduled to be closed Dec. 16. The new light-weight commander and pilot seats will be re-checked for proper fitting today. The Ku-band rate sensor assembly will also be rechecked over the weekend. Stacking of the solid rocket boosters for mission STS-82 continues in the Vehicle Assembly Building. The external tank will be mated to the solid rocket boosters during the first week of December.
