TVA improves recreation facilities on six reservoirs

Visitors to six TVA-managed reservoirs will notice a variety of improvements this summer.

Visitors to the overlook at Wilson Dam will find a new pier, built to improve fishing access, especially for people with disabilities.

On Kentucky Reservoir, new courtesy docks will make it easier for boaters to get in and out of their boats at Pacer Point and at Patterson Landing.

On Guntersville Reservoir, TVA has rebuilt the boat ramp at the dam. Improvements included grating the concrete surface to provide traction for vehicles launching or retrieving boats and expanding the rock jetty which deflects the current away from the ramp.

Chatuge, Fontana, and Wilson Reservoirs are more accessible, especially to visitors with disabilities, thanks to new fishing and stream access facilities. These facilities, which include wheelchair-accessible piers and walkways, are located at Shooting Creek off Highway 64 on Chatuge; at the Bryson City recreation area on Fontana; and at the dam overlook on Wilson.

Finally, on Melton Hill Reservoir, TVA has constructed four new accessible camp sites and upgraded the water and electric hook-ups at about 35 camp sites.

“We invite you to check out these recent improvements,” says TVA Recreation Manager Jerry Fouse.

“TVA manages about 100 public recreation areas throughout the Tennessee Valley, including campgrounds, day-use areas, and boat launching ramps. We are continuing to plan and complete a variety of improvement projects that we hope will enhance your enjoyment of these facilities.”
