Introduction to Section 106
The ACHP announces a new one-day course designed to introduce participants to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and its review requirements for federal project planning.  Introduction to Section 106 provides an overview of the process while emphasizing key terms and concepts.  This course uses a combination of small group activities and lecture to acquaint those new to Section 106 with the fundamentals they need to understand when Section106 applies, who participates, what information is required, and how reviews are concluded.

106 Essentials Training Course
The Section 106 Essentials is a two‑day course designed for those who are new to Section 106 review or those who want a refresher on its basic operation.  This course explains the requirements of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, which applies any time a federal, federally assisted, or federally approved activity might affect a property listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.

Advanced Section 106 Seminar
The Advanced Section 106 Seminar focuses on the effective management of complex or controversial undertakings that require compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Taught in a smaller, interactive setting, this seminar encourages group discussion and problem solving. Designed for experienced Section 106 users, the seminar focuses on the challenges of seeking consensus and solving adverse effects to historic properties.

Recovery Act Section 106 Training
The Recovery Act Section 106 Training is a special ACHP one-day course designed to familiarize those responsible for ensuring that environmental reviews are conducted for Recovery Act projects with the requirements of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. This offering will provide a brief overview of the Section 106 process while focusing on key terms and concepts. The course will acquaint participants with the fundamentals they need to understand the roles and responsibilities of Section 106 participants, reasonable and good faith efforts to identify historic properties and consultation strategies to streamline reviews. Expanded discussions on archaeology, coordinating Section 106 with NEPA, and the role of applicants in compliance will highlight issues relevant to Recovery Act projects.
