  Question
What should persons who have been granted asylum bring when they go to apply for assistance and services?
  Answer
Persons who have been granted asylum (asylees) should bring proof of their status, "entry" date (See State Letter #00-12 http://orr.rk.anteon.com/orrsite3/policy/sl01-12.htm, State Letter #00-15 http://orr.rk.anteon.com/orrsite3/policy/sl01-15april.htm, and FAQ#4) and identity. The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) recommends that asylees bring their social security number card or proof that they have applied for a social security number. This proof may include a letter from the Social Security Administration (SSA) or some type of receipt from the SSA. ORR also recommends that asylees bring State Letter #00-12 and/or State Letter #00-15.
