The Department of Defense (DoD) Directory (also commonly referred to as the "DoD Telephone Directory") is available online. The site is secured using the Common Access Card (CAC) technology and is accessible only through ".mil" networks to users logging in with a CAC and an accompanying PIN.

Search and Update Instructions for the Online Alphabetical DoD Directory

With the online DoD Directory, users can search for individuals by first name, last name or phone number. Each search line includes the option to enter all or portions of the last name, first name and/or telephone number of the person the user is trying to locate.  Search options include: "equals," "starts with," "ends with," and "contains". Naturally, search results come back faster as more complete information is entered, but even the most complex searches will take only seconds to complete.

If you are not currently listed in the Alphabetical Listings, you will receive a message saying your record cannot be found. To enter your personal information into the Alphabetical Listings, you must complete a DD Form 218 and fax the form to the Directory Services group, fax # (703) 697-7570.

The search page includes a link that allows users to paste the DD Form 218-- DoD Telephone Directory Alphabetical Section Change Order -- into the body of an e-mail, which can be sent directly to DTS-W in order to update the Directory and operator listings for both individual personnel and organizations.

If you are listed in the Alphabetical Listings, you can make Rank, Unit, and Building or Telephone changes online. In addition, Organizational directory data also can be managed and updated online by authorized personnel.
