The USU Troy J. Beeler, Ph.D. Outstanding Graduate Program Alumnus Award was established to honor USU Graduate Program alumni who have made distinguished contributions to society and whose accomplishments and careers have brought credit to the school.
ELIGIBILITY
To be considered for the award, the individual must (in no particular order):
- 1. have earned a graduate degree from the Uniformed Services University in a discipline other than medicine or graduate nursing
- 2. be distinguished in his/her career and must have received some previous recognition from contemporaries
- 3. have been active in professional organizations
- 4. have participated in leadership roles within his/her community and professional organizations
- 5. have demonstrated through deed and action, the importance of his/her education at USU.
It is the general policy that each nominee may be considered for selection for as many as three (3) years, provided he/she was not selected in the previous two years and remained eligible for selection according to the guidelines.
Criteria
Any individual who meets the following criteria may nominate former students for the award:
- 1. any USU graduate
- 2. any member of the USU faculty or staff
- 3. any board of regents member
- 4. any member of the Outstanding Graduate Award Selection Committee
INELIGIBILITY
The following individuals are ineligible to receive the Troy J. Beeler, Ph.D. Outstanding Graduate Program Alumnus Award:
- 1. Previous recipients of the Distinguished Alumnus Award
- 2. Members of the Selection Committee
- 3. Any candidate for public office
NUMBER OF AWARDS
The Selection Committee shall select no more than two individuals in any one year. At least one award will be conferred each year, unless that committee feels there is some compelling reason not to select a recipient.
SELECTION COMMITTEE
The Troy J. Beeler, Ph.D. Outstanding Graduate Program Alumnus Award Selection Committee shall be chaired by the Director, Alumni Affairs, and additionally, shall be composed of the Associate Dean for Graduate Education, at least two other graduate program alumni, one member of the basic science USU faculty, one current graduate student, and the Executive Director or President of the USU Alumni Association.
The committee shall have full responsibility for reviewing the nominations, establishing the eligibility of the nominees, and selecting the recipients, upon the majority vote of the total membership of the committee.
RECOGNITION OF RECIPIENTS
The Selection Committee shall determine the time and place of the recognition dinner for all recipients and will also determine the type of plaque or other symbol that will acknowledge the prestige of the award.
NOMINATION PROCESS
Anyone wishing to nominate an alumnus for this award should complete the online nomination form with a narrative stating why you believe the nominee should be considered for the Troy J. Beeler, Ph.D. Outstanding Graduate Program Alumnus Award.
In addition to the form, the nominator is encouraged to submit other information for the selection committee's consideration which will demonstrate the qualifications of the nominee. These attachments may include a resume, vitae or biography, as well as newspaper or magazine clippings. All attachments must be submitted by mail or through email (Office A1025) and can be sent to:
