TVA Regional Resource Stewardship Council To Meet In Knoxville July 15

The Regional Resource Stewardship Council will meet Wednesday, July 15, in TVA’s West Tower Auditorium in Knoxville to hear updates on TVA’s Integrated Resource Plan, dam improvement projects, natural resource management and implementation of the agency’s Environmental Policy.

Seven new members, who were approved by the TVA Board, will serve on the RRSC, which was created to advise TVA on the management of natural resources in the Tennessee Valley. The July meeting is the first since the RRSC was extended for a fifth two-year term.

The RRSC meeting is open to the public and will be in session from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A public comment period is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

Anyone wanting to make comments at the meeting should register in the TVA West Tower lobby by 9 a.m. on July 15. Speakers are asked to limit their remarks to no more than five minutes. Thirty minutes will be allotted for public comments with participation available on a first-come, first-served basis. Hand-out materials should be limited to one printed page.

The TVA Board approved the appointment of new members after receiving nominations from governors of the states served by TVA and recommendations from TVA customer organizations, community officials and other stakeholder groups.

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear nominated Mr. Zee C. Enix, Murray, Ky., to the RRSC. New members nominated by TVA distributor or industrial customers are Mark Hommrich, Brentwood, Tenn., and Larry Kernea, Murphy, N.C. Renee Hoyos, and Dr. Kelly Tiller, both from Knoxville; John Wilbanks, Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; and Deborah Woolley, Nashville, Tenn., were appointed to the council based on recommendations by stakeholders.

Other members reappointed by governors are W. C. Nelson, Blairsville, Ga.; Bill Forsyth, Murphy, N.C.; Jim Fyke, Nashville, Tenn.; and Carol Doss, Abingdon, Va.

Returning council members are Karl Dudley, Selmer, Tenn.; Jean Kellems Elmore, West Point, Miss.; Michael Goodman, Waverly, Tenn.; George Kitchens, Trinity, Ala.; Senator Arthur Orr, Decatur, Ala.; Wes Rosenbalm, Bristol, Va.; Russell Townsend, Cherokee, N.C.; Bill Tittle, Chattanooga, Tenn.; and Tom Littlepage, Montgomery, Ala.

The 20-member RRSC was established in 2000 under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, which sets guidelines for establishing a group that provides advice or makes recommendations to a federal agency.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financing. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 9 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood damage reduction, navigation, water quality and recreation.
