TVA Asks for Comments on Proposed Transmission Project

July 6, 2009

BYRDSTOWN, Tenn. – To continue providing reliable power to the Byrdstown area, TVA is proposing improvements to its transmission system. Public input on the proposed improvements is encouraged, beginning with an open house in Albany, Ky., on July 16.

Improvements include a proposed new Volunteer Electric Cooperative substation near Byrdstown and 15 to 18 miles of TVA 161-kilovolt transmission line. The proposed new line would extend from TVA’s existing Huntsville-Wolf Creek 161-kV line to the new Byrdstown substation, located southeast of Byrdstown, Tennessee.

Several alternative routes, a network of 13 possible line segments and four locations to connect to the existing line are being considered. TVA will present the alternatives at an open house to be held from 3-7 p.m. CDT at the Clinton County Middle School Gymnasium, 169 Middle School Road, in Albany.

Detailed maps showing the network of alternative routes for the proposed power line will be available, and TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss potential concerns and receive comments on the proposals. A map is available.

For additional information or to submit comments, contact Missy Davis, TVA, 1101 Market St. (MR 4G), Chattanooga, TN 37402-2801, call toll free 800-362-4355, e-mail newtransline@tva.com or visit TVA’s website. The deadline for comments is Aug. 17.
