June 19, 2009

HARRIMAN, Tenn. — TVA, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, June 23, to discuss the progress of recovery efforts at the Kingston Fossil Plant ash spill site and to answer questions from area residents.

The meeting will be held from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Roane State Community College Theatre in the O’Brien Building at 276 Patton Lane in Harriman.

“The main focus of this meeting is to address residents’ concerns and communicate directly with them,” said Katie Kline, Senior Manager of Community Relations for TVA. “We know we have a lot more work ahead of us, and TVA, with the help and cooperation of other agencies and the community, is committed to restoring and enhancing the area around the Kingston Fossil Plant.”

The first hour of the public meeting will be conducted in an open-house format, during which the public can look at informational materials and talk with representatives of TVA, EPA and TDEC, Oak Ridge Associated Universities, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

At 6:30 p.m., officials will conduct a public listening session, which will give the public an opportunity to ask questions and share their views. Following the listening session, representatives of all agencies will again be available to provide information and answer any remaining questions.
