TVA Names Executives To Lead Government Relations, Communications

The TVA Board today approved the hiring of a senior vice president of Communications as part of an executive staff change designed to strengthen TVA’s communication and relationships with public officials and other stakeholders.

David Mould, formerly assistant administrator for Public Affairs with the National Aeronautics & Space Administration, will join TVA as senior vice president, Communications. TVA executive Emily Reynolds will head TVA’s Government & Valley Relations staff as senior vice president of that group.

TVA’s communications and government relations functions, previously in one organization, will become two organizations, each reporting directly to CEO and President Tom Kilgore.

Before joining NASA in 2005, Mould was special assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Energy and previously was vice president of Communications for PG&E National Energy Group, a wholesale electricity and gas development subsidiary of PG&E Corp.

He earlier worked in corporate communications with Southern Company, the investor-owned utility holding company, and its subsidiary Mirant Corp. He previously was the southern U.S. managing editor for the news agency United Press International and began his career as a reporter and news bureau manager with the Memphis newspaper The Commercial Appeal.

“We are very pleased with David’s appointment to lead our communications function,” Kilgore said. “David brings an outstanding combination of communications and business qualifications to his role, including Department of Energy and electric utility experience.”

Before joining TVA in 2007, Reynolds served as the 31st secretary of the U.S. Senate where she managed the legislative, financial and administrative operations of the Senate. Her career of public service began in 1980 when she was special assistant to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker Jr. Reynolds became chief of staff for Sen. Bill Frist in 2001, supervising Frist’s Washington and Tennessee offices.

“Emily is uniquely qualified to represent TVA to public officials at all levels, and TVA will benefit from her focus on our relationship with those important stakeholders,” said Kilgore.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financing. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 9 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood damage reduction, navigation, water quality and recreation.
