Chattanooga-Area CFC Tops Goal, Raises More Than $1.4 Million

January 23, 2009

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Federal agencies in the Chattanooga area have collected pledges and donations of more than $1.4 million for local and national charitable agencies, exceeding the annual Combined Federal Campaign goal by 6.5 percent.

“This year's campaign theme, Imagine, is really what the campaign is all about," said Van Wardlaw, campaign chairman and TVA’s Executive Vice President of Power Supply & Fuels. “Federal employees know that their gifts to CFC are a positive influence that can be felt by others for years to come.

“I thank Chattanooga area federal employees for their generosity. We faced some challenges in meeting the aggressive goal we set; but once again, federal employees pulled together to help others,” Wardlaw said.

Assisting Wardlaw in the campaign were Mike Kealey, TVA; Randy Bowen, U.S. Postal Service; Delores Lewis, CFC director with United Way of Chattanooga; and three loaned executives, Joyce Berry with the USPS and John Fornicola and Steve Taylor with TVA.

The CFC is held annually to give federal employees an opportunity to contribute to charitable, health and human-service organizations.

Federal employees in the Chattanooga area have raised more than $31 million for local and national charitable agencies since 1987 and have been recognized for having the highest average gift per person for campaigns raising $1 million to $2 million worldwide.

Funds raised through 242 campaigns conducted nationwide support more than 2,500 local, national and international charitable agencies. More information on the CFC and the 2008 campaign is available at http://www.chattanoogacfc.org.

The Greater Chattanooga Area CFC covers 21 counties across East Tennessee and parts of Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina.
