February Monthly Steel Fact Sheet
The preliminary data released show that overall steel imports in February 2009 decreased 34.45 percent from January 2009. This change in February’s total amount of steel imports was due to an decrease in several categories including standard pipe (-59.12%), line pipe (-49.97%), and oil country goods
(-46.87%). Other notable decreases included wire rods (-51.47%), carbon and alloy blooms, billets and slabs (-49.97%), and reinforcing bar (-41.84%). February 2009 imports of steel mill products were down 37.48 percent compared to February 2008. Despite the February 2009 decrease, oil country goods increased 83.19% from February 2008 to February 2009.
