OUT8120 - Advanced Volunteer Management
Outreach Courses List | DEO Home
 This course goes beyond the nuts and bolts of recruiting and managing volunteers and focuses on the leadership and effective communication skills necessary to build management support; strategies to build management support for a volunteer program and justify costs; methods of involving refuge staff in utilizing volunteer skills; and creating a positive supportive environment for volunteers. Participants will leave the course with increased skills in leadership and effective communication, engaging staff in planning for volunteer involvement, and motivating volunteers and staff.
College Credit  
Who Should Attend: The course is for people with lead responsibility for a volunteer program. Attendance is limited to those who have completed the Volunteer Recruitment and Management course (OUT8114) or any introduction to volunteer management course.
Objectives:
Participants will gain skills to:
  • Demonstrate seven communications skills that enhance a person’s ability to lead others;
  • Develop a strategic plan for volunteer involvement;
  • Justify the benefit and asset of a volunteer program and support the cost;
  • List the steps necessary to engage the staff in planning for volunteer involvement and effectively using volunteer skills;
  • Identify and implement strategies to remove barriers that limit volunteer involvement.
