The Office of the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs has been established to provide an administrative Dean level position to specifically serve all the Faculty of the School of Medicine.The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs serves as a faculty advocate and works to promote an academic enviroment that supports, enhances, and rewards the activities of the SOM faculty.
The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs is charged with the following major duties and responsibilities:
To provide consultation and assistance on Faculty Affairs to the Dean of the School of Medicine in the following areas:
- (1) Development and implementation of policies relating to faculty recruitment, appointment, retention, development, promotion, and tenure to accomplish the mission of the SOM. Responsibility for assisting the Dean SOM in the establishment of manpower and personnel requirements, to include the proper mix between civilian and military positions.
- (2) Provide leadership and guidance in the development and implementation of a School of Medicine faculty compensation program. Responsible for assisting the Dean in the development and implementation of the civilian faculty salaries in the School of Medicine to insure that they are in accordance with the provisions of the enabling legislation.
- (3) Provide leadership and guidance in the development and implementation of an annual faculty review process that is based on accepted techniques of quality assessment. The review process will used as mechanism for furthering the development of the faculty member in the areas of scholarly activity including research, teaching, and professional service.
- (4) Provide leadership and guidance in the development of a SOM policy on faculty teaching including establishing mechanisms to evaluate and reward teaching activities and outcomes.
- (5) Responsible for assisting the Dean in the development of a long range SOM strategic plan for academic programs addressing faculty development, staffing, budget, and space requirements.
- (6) Serve as a liaison to the Faculty Senate on matters of Faculty Affairs.
