VA Voluntary Service (VAVS) has joined President Barack Obama’s United We Serve initiative. VAVS is committed to engaging American citizens in service during the summer months and provide lasting benefits to the veterans and communities in which they live through volunteer service. Welcome Home Events
VA sponsors Welcome Home events around the country for returning military service members and their families. The events provide important information and guidance on accessing health care and other benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs. calculator Volunteers are an invaluable resource for the Department of Veterans Affairs. It is impossible to calculate the amount of caring and sharing that VAVS volunteers provide to veteran patients. VAVS volunteers are a priceless asset to the Nation's veterans and to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

VA Secretary Hits the Road to Highlight "United We Serve" Effort
Secretary Shinseki and a VA volunteer provided transportation for veterans to their appointments.

Heeding President Obama's call for Americans to commit themselves to meaningful, long-term service to their communities as part of the "United We Serve" campaign, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki spent part of his morning transporting patients to the Washington, D.C., VA Medical Center.
