II. MAJOR INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND APPLICATION DESCRIPTIONS
-
Die Information System (DIS)
The Die Information System (DIS) is a custom application written in Visual Basic
with an Oracle database to track the manufacturing, shipping, utilization, and
refurbishing of all dies produced by the U.S. Mint. It provides die accountability,
die life statistics, coin press statistics, and die inventory data. DIS is
installed on the Mint's network, and is used by multiple users at several Mint field
sites. DIS is a standalone application.
-
Documentum
The Documentum Electronic Document Management System is a document management
system, which allows the Mint to access, control, review, update, and distribute
documents Mint-wide. It features a common, enterprise-scalable repository that
captures knowledge, validates its accuracy, and makes knowledge available according
to Mint policies.
-
Freedom of Information Tracking System (FITS)
The Freedom of Information Tracking System (FITS) was developed by the U.S. Mint
to manage Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act requests. FITS is
installed on the Mint's network, but is used by only one user, and does not
interface with any other systems. FITS is a standalone application.
-
HEAT
HEAT is a COTS call management system. It is primarily used to log, track,
route, and forward customer requests for information technology hardware and
software, and maintenance service. HEAT interfaces with the MS-Outlook e-mail
message program.
-
Automated Data Collection System (ADCS)
System in use by the Mint's Circulating Strategic Business Unit that utilizes
handheld (RF technology) and fixed barcode scanners/readers to enter data for
capturing actual hours, completion quantities, scrap, item transfers, manual/system
cycle counts and purchase order receipts.
-
Maximo
Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) used by the Mint for
conducting plant floor production equipment and building maintenance (both repair
work and preventive maintenance.) Also used for tracking associated
inventory/spare part items, reporting labor/material costs tied to equipment,
and creating maintenance/repair purchase requisitions.
-
PeopleSoft ERP
The Enterprise Resource Planning System is an integrated suite of enterprise
applications that provides functionality for financial management, distribution
and manufacturing. PeopleSoft Financials focuses on the operational and management
aspects of accounting and facilitates the analysis of this information across
departments and business units. PeopleSoft Manufacturing and Distribution helps
to align procurement, inventory processes and policies with the operations of key
external suppliers and customers by converting customer demand into supply actions
and allowing the Mint to respond to changes in customer demand, providing
flexibility in the assembly of customer orders through continuous improvement
programs. Combined, these systems provide an accurate view of existing inventories
and also project future supplies, based on master production schedules and
plans.
