Compensation Division (CG-1222) :
Basic Pay

Basic Pay is the primary means of compensating all active duty members of the Coast Guard.  Every member on active duty is entitled to basic pay except during periods of unauthorized absence, excess leave, confinement, or when specifically waived.  Basic pay is paid on a regular basis according to pay grade and length of service.

Authority: Under the authority of 37 U.S. Code Section 205, a member's cumulative years of service for the purpose of determining the member's rate of basic pay is computed by adding all periods of active and inactive service as a commissioned officer, warrant officer, or enlisted member in any Regular or Reserve component of a Uniformed Service.
