The Edward Stone Award for Outstanding Research Publication
The Edward Stone Award for Outstanding Research Publication recognizes and encourages publication of significant research results in science and in technology by JPL employees throughout their professional careers. This distinguished award consists of a certificate of recognition and a monetary award of $5000. Generally, two (2) awards are presented each year.
For using the Spitzer Space telescope to discover over a hundred distant galaxy clusters and enabling studies of the formation and evolution of massive gravitationally-bound structures.
For developing techniques for obtaining spectra of exoplanets and for the first detection of methane in an exoplanet atmosphere, leading to improved understanding of exoplanet atmosphere composition and dynamics.
The Lew Allen Award for Excellence
The Lew Allen Award for Excellence recognizes and encourages significant individual accomplishments or leadership in scientific research or technological innovation by JPL employees during the early years of their professional careers. The award consists of a wall plaque and a monetary award of $25,000 from the JPL Research and Technology Development Fund (R&TD) to be used at JPL to enhance the professional efforts of the awardee.
For demonstrating world leadership in the fields of monolithic microwave integrated circuit design and millimeter-wave component development, capabilities.
For the development of outstanding computational models of the plasma physics in electric propulsion hollow cathodes, and of their major wear mechanisms.
For major advances in the understanding of water vapor and cloud feedbacks on climate change.
For advancing the performance and application of machine learning methods to onboard and ground-based space science, Earth science and spacecraft engineering.
