Given the Service’s “shaping our future” initiatives, employees need to be prepared to take on more and higher levels of responsibility. In addition, supervisors are tasked with developing employees in order to satisfy the critical performance element of the newly added leadership competency of Developing Employees. In this course, participants will learn and apply a coaching framework, including a philosophy, approach, skills and techniques for effectively influencing others to contribute improved performance and positive outcomes for themselves and their organizations.

College Credit:  1 semester credit

Who Should Attend: Supervisors, SUTL coaches and anyone wanting to improve their coaching skills

Objectives:

• Define coaching and the qualities of successful coaching.
• Give effective feedback to employees by applying the situation-Behavior-Impact (SBI) feedback model.
• Refine their individual coaching skills through practice.
• Apply coaching skills back on the job to effectively coach employees in areas of performance, personal, and career development.
