JAPANESE ENTRY AND MARKETING PROCEDURES

Proprietors of Distilled Spirits Plants, Bonded Wine Cellars and Breweries.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this industry circular is to inform those interested in exporting beverage alcohol to Japan that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has prepared a report which provides information on Japanese requirements regarding customs entry procedures, tariff, taxes, labeling, licensing and advertising of wine, beer and distilled spirits.

This report is not being generally distributed but a single copy will be mailed, free of charge, to anyone requesting a copy. Recipients are free to make and distribute photocopies of the report with no constraints.

Requests should be addressed to:

Chief, Alcohol Import-Export Branch Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Attn: Industry Circular - P.O. Box 385 Washington, DC 20044 - 0385

This report has been verified as correct by the Japanese Ministry of Finance, the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Japanese Fair Trade Commission and the other appropriate authoritative bodies of the Government of Japan.

It will be updated as necessary and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms would welcome any suggestions which might assist us in improving the report in the future. In this connection, it would also be of interest to receive comments from those who have actually engaged in exporting beverage alcohol to Japan.
