Alcohol Beverage Advertising Program

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau’s (TTB) Alcohol Beverage Advertising Program is a more proactive approach to monitoring the market place for advertising material of alcohol beverage products. 

As outlined in Industry Circular 2004-6, TTB conducts three types of reviews –

  • Preclearance of advertising material – At the industry member’s request, we review the member’s advertisement for compliance with the appropriate advertising regulations.  This service is offered at no charge. 
  • Referrals and/or complaints – Review of advertisements for compliance when the general public, other government agencies, an employee within TTB, or another industry member refers to us an advertisement which they believe is in violation of our laws and regulations. 
  • Audit – Selection of industry members for an audit of their advertising material(s) based on various elements, such as their compliance history, length of time in the business, new or high profile products, and the company’s market impact.  Since the start of this program we have opened 10 audits and reviewed approximately 500 advertisements.
